A Divine Vision Takes Shape at Templo Expiatorio Guadalajara
The genesis traces back to the late 19th century when devout local Catholics envisioned a temple dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament.
Collaborating with the city’s archbishop, Pedro Loza y Pardavé, a competition was held to select an architect.
The honor fell to Italian architect Adamo Boari. Construction commenced in 1897, achieving a significant phase with the completion of interior columns in 1911.
However, the turbulence of the Mexican Revolution temporarily halted the project, and in 1927, architect Ignacio Díaz Morales took the reins.
Religious ceremonies commenced in 1931, and the church attained completion in 1972.
Architectural Marvel in Stone
Crafted in the fashion of medieval stone carving, the facade is a triptych, adorned with mosaics crafted at the Vatican’s Mosaic Factory.
The central mosaic depicts the Lamb of God, while the flanking sections honor Saint Tarcisius and St. Pius X. The church’s bell tower, located to the left of the facade, boasts a clock and carillon imported from Germany, expertly maintained by German technicians.

The carillon within the bell tower is a musical spectacle, playing 25 religious and popular tunes.
Additionally, it can be played manually from a keyboard in the church’s choir.
An enchanting feature is the balcony a quarter of the way up the tower, where, on the hour, doors open, and figurines representing the 12 apostles emerge, crossing the balcony before returning to the tower.
